Frolic kicks off summer!

Mount Horeb’s kickoff to summer is back — and bringing new twists to the fun. The 58th Summer Frolic returns June 12–15 at Grundahl Park, with a packed schedule of carnival rides, live music, games, food and beverages, tournaments, and youth and family activities. This year’s festival introduces three exciting new events that promise to draw fresh crowds and hometown pride.

New in 2025:

Youth Night with DJ Van ‘Go – Friday night kicks off with a party just for tweens and teens. From 8 to 10 p.m., DJ Van ‘Go will spin a high-energy set under the large octagonal shelter, giving younger Frolic-goers their own space to dance and celebrate.

Men’s Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament – Longtime residents will remember men’s softball from many years back. The Frolic is bringing back this tournament on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The winning team will earn a payout of $750, with $400 for second, $250 for third and $150 for fourth. Each of the first four teams eliminated will receive a complimentary case of beer.

Hometown Throwdown Cornhole Tournament – Presented in partnership with Madison’s Country Q106, this all-new bags competition brings added flair to the Frolic. Whether you’re a serious player or just tossing for fun, it’s a chance to play for prizes and get noticed by the Q106 crew.

Beyond the new additions, the Frolic still delivers on all the beloved traditions:

carnival rides and midway games by Mr. Ed’s Magical Midways;

bingo under the tent each day;

the Norsk Run on Saturday morning (5-mile run and 2-mile run/walk options);

the Frolic Fours Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament;

live music daily, including Lights Out on Friday, Foo Foo Dolls on Saturday and Chuck Lorenzo on Sunday;

the parade — honoring Frolic Parade Marshal Martha Pfaff of Children’s Community School for 40 years as an educator — at noon on Sunday;

Saturday fireworks at dusk to light up the summer sky.

Founded in 1969 and run entirely by volunteers, the Frolic supports local parks and recreation, plus nine local service and youth sports organizations. It has raised nearly $1 million in community improvements, and this year, it provided a $50,000 donation toward new playground equipment to be installed later this summer at Grundahl Park.

“One of the best things about the Summer Frolic is knowing that every dollar spent at the festival goes right back into our community,” Summer Frolic President Amy Mertz said. “Thanks to an incredible group of dedicated board members, our event is completely planned and run by volunteers. We’re so grateful for the continued support of our sponsors and for everyone who participates in the festival in their favorite way.”

Admission to the Frolic grounds is free, with a $5 cover after 7 p.m. to enter the beer tent on Friday and Saturday nights. For event details, registration info, and updates, visit mthorebsummerfrolic.com or follow the festival on social media.
