Halverson steps down from village board

UPDATED

Trustee Brett Halverson is stepping down from the Mount Horeb Village Board as he and his family move outside the district.

Halverson first won a seat on the board at the age of 36 back in 2022. He was known for his thoughtful and measured contributions to board debates during his tenure.

“Everyone in this position always says it was an honor to serve, but it really was,” said Halverson. “It was truly a privilege to represent the village and help guide its future with my capable colleagues; I never took it for granted and I enjoyed it immensely. Thanks to the residents of Mount Horeb for entrusting us to make decisions on your behalf. Mount Horeb is a wonderful place to live, and I will miss it a great deal.”

Halverson also worked as a policy aide for the Wisconsin State Assembly. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from UW-Madison in 2007, and a Masters in Public Affairs from the La Follette School at UW-Madison in 2014.

Village administrator Nic Owen said government leaders hope to fill Halverson’s seat as soon as possible.

“With all the significant projects we are working on we would like to fill the spot as soon as practical and are looking for candidates to fill the remainder of Brett’s term, which expires in April of 2026,” Owen said.

On Monday of this week, Owen announced that village president Ryan Czyzewski plans to recommend former village trustee Jason Fendrick to fill the remainder of Halverson’s term.  Fendrick has stayed involved in village government since last serving as a trustee, being a member of the finance and personnel committee and public safety committee.

“Thank you to Brett Halverson for his service to the citizens of Mount Horeb,” said Fendrick. “I wish him well in his future endeavors. Also, thank you to Village President Czyzewski for offering me the opportunity to serve again.”

“I look forward to joining the village board, should they approve me, and participating in the decisions facing the village today. With the many projects currently before the Board, this is an exciting time to be a resident of Mount Horeb!”said Fendrick.
