The path is daunting — to put it mildly.
But Mount Horeb’s girls basketball team is excited to attack the postseason with vigor and zest.

There were coaches that loved trying to “sell” their teams to the crowd and earn a higher seed.
Others strongly disliked the “salesmanship” that was involved.
Some felt the voting was done fairly and with integrity. Others believed some coaches tried maneuvering positions to benefit their team....

Instead, Mount Horeb’s boys basketball team settled for a split last week.
The Vikings defeated Reedsburg, 55-44, last Friday. Mount Horeb also fell to Sauk Prairie, 46-44, on Feb. 1.

Mount Horeb’s girls basketball team faced two area powers last week. And while the Vikings fell short in both contests, they gave both McFarland Madison Edgewood a battle.
McFarland edged the host Vikings, 54-46, on Feb. 1. Edgewood then toppled the visiting Vikings, 60-44, on Feb. 3.

The meets keep coming and the records keep falling.
Mount Horeb’s girls gymnastics team — which continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the Wisconsin High School Gymnastics Association Division 2 poll — rolled to a 143.80-132.90 win over visiting Waunakee/DeForest on Feb. 3.

The Big Eight Conference is traditionally one of the deepest and strongest in the state. And this year’s conference meet proved that once again.

Mount Horeb’s wrestlers finished in 15th place at the 15-team Badger Conference tournament last Saturday.
Milton won the tournament with 372.5 points. The Vikings finished with 28.0 points.
